Monitor and maintain civil assets


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to monitor and conduct maintenance to ensure the integrity of power generation civil assets.

Civil asset maintenance strategies are used to preserve and extend the service life of infrastructure. Civil assets may include infrastructuresuch as water treatment facilities, sewer pipelines, roads, utility grids, bridges, tunnels and railways.

Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, monitor civil assets, maintain civil assets and the completion of all work. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, in a power generation facility.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Note: Workplace practice

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Plan and prepare for work

Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety(OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, industry standards, codes of practice, manufacturers' specifications, environmental obligations and workplace procedures are identified, applied and monitored

Work requirements are identified from work orders and are confirmed with appropriate parties or by site inspection, in accordance with workplace procedures

Maintenance work is completed and appropriate personnel are notified, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements

Work area is cleared of waste, cleaned, restored and secured, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements

Civil asset maintenance tools and equipment are maintained and stored, in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturers' specifications
